Spam/Pfishing Bill

The House has introduced a bill to reduce spam and pfishing. Called “Internet Spyware (I-SPY) Prevention Act of 2005,” this bill had passed the House Judiciary Committee last fall and is now back.

Basically, if you access a protected computer and copy a program that does something illegal, you can be fined and/or imprisoned for up to 5 years. If you access a protected computer, obtain personal information in order to defraud or injure a person, or impair the computer’s security, you can be fined and/or imprisoned for up to 2 years.
