Copyright and Graphics on the Web

Originally airing on March 3rd, Mary Minow presented an hour-long session on copyright and web graphics. It’s a good overview which takes you through the decision process which includes determining whether the work is in the public domain, covered under section 108, can be considered fair use, or whether you should get permission from the owner. Stay for the questions at the end — her answers are very helpful.

All handouts and legislation refered to are available on the webcast web site. Good overview. Even if you understand copyright issues, it is a good reminder using web-based court cases and legislation.

As you can imagine, she had questions that couldn’t be answered fully within the timeframe provided. Mary provided followup on her LibraryLaw Blog.
