Don’t Sit Up!

Surprisingly (at least to me), researchers in Scotland have found that sitting up is not good for your back for prolonged periods of time.  Twenty-two volunteers assumed three positions: hunched forward (as in slouching over a desk), sitting upright at a 90 degree angle, and sitting back at a 135 degree angle.  The researchers found that the least strain is “placed on the spinal disks and associated muscles and tendons in a more relaxed sitting position.”
