Thoughts About Library Virtual Presence

Karen Coombs, lately of the University of Houston Libraries, wrote an article for Library Journal in which she considers changes to library virtual presences.  Instead of just naming Web 2.0 tools, e.g., Flickr, del.icio.us, RSS, she is able to put things in a more practical perspective.  Using some of the work UH has done, she discusses how they will incorporate user contributions and provide library information outside the library world.

The focus of the article, however, is on why they are making these changes.  Information from current Web 2.0 projects, Pew, OCLC, and Anderson’s “The Long Tail” all combine to support changes in how libraries provide and present their information.  Good, short article.
