Netscape Dies February 1, 2008

According to Wired:

Tom Drapeau, AOL’s director of the Netscape brand, announced in a blog post Friday that AOL will cease development on all Netscape web browsers on February 1, 2008. The company will continue to support the current version of the browser, Netscape 9, by releasing patches or security fixes until that date. After February 1, all development will stop.

AOL is encouraging Netscape users to move to Firefox.

Just to let you know that AOL has extended it’s customer support for Netscape Communicator to March 1, 2008. AOL is also encouraging its Netscape users to migrate to Flock browser as well.

You’re right — they’ve extended their support. I didn’t know they are encouraging Netscape users to move to Flock. Interesting choice.
