Earliest Digital Recording

As part of the 60th anniversary of Baby, a forerunner of modern computers, the BBC has unearthed what they think is the oldest recording of a computer playing music. The recording is from the fall of 1951 and includes America, Baa Baa Black Sheep, and part of In the Mood:

If you’re looking for a great recording, you won’t get it here.  It’s scratchy and definitely out of tune — but how important historically.
