Second Life Moves to Mobile Phones
I’ve been working with Second Life off and on for the past few years. One of the issues I’ve always come up against is the robustness of the system and connection that is needed in order to have a satisfactory experience. So, you can imagine how surprised I was to see that Second Life has been ported to the mobile phone.
Apparently, it works. It does require either 3G or a high bandwidth connection to your cell phone and, of course, a data plan. What’s actually being installed on your phone is an open source thin client from Vollee. Therefore, all the work is being done on the Vollee servers and screens are being sent to you. However, you can search, fly, teleport, chat — pretty much anything you can do using the regular software:
