Google has entered the browser marketplace with it’s open source Google Chrome. It’s name refers to the chrome-like look of the browser.
I’ve been using it for a while now and, I have to say that, although it’s missing a few features for me, I really like it. It allows me to close just the tab that crashes, not the whole browser. It’s really fast — much faster than Firefox, which is my stand-by. It does require re-learning, as the interface is much different — a lot more white space and they’ve gotten rid of some of the functionality that wasn’t used much.
There is obviously much more to this than just a browser. Google looks at the web as our future operating system. This browser lines up with that — it will allow applications to run within it as if they are running on your own system.
I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes. Meanwhile, it’s fun to play with.
