How Fast is Your Broadband?

As more light is focusing on how we should provide broadband to every American, we are also starting to discover the actual speeds of our broadband services. Although the FCC will be providing a more accurate assessment, they have told us that we are actually getting about half the speed we’ve seen in the advertisements.

Specifically, companies are providing “up to” speeds; that is, you can get “up to” 10mbps down and 4mbps up. With the information the FCC has so far, we are now finding that the actual speeds are about 50% of these “up to” numbers. Is this a surprise? Probably not. But it is good to finally have some data behind it so something can be done.
